Gold Vermeil

Gold vermeil is a wonderful way to wear gold without breaking your budget! Today, there are many talented designers and artists who work in vermeil (and some who work exclusively in vermeil!). In contrast to methods such as gold plating or gold filling, gold vermeil jewlery is typically sterling silver jewelry (as opposed to base metals utilized in other techniques) and it is coated with a thicker layer of higher karat gold (no less than 10k) than other techniques. In short: gold vermeil jewlery tends to wear much better than gold filled or gold plated pieces. Because the gold is layered on top of sterling silver, this also reduces the reactivity of individuals with allergies that can be irritated by the base metals used in other styles. Also, gold vermeil jewlery is beautiful and no one will know that you're not wearing solid gold!
