What's a Girl to Wear?

SPRING 2010

Spring is a wonderful time of year that not only embodies a general spirit of renewal in the natural world around us, but that also helps to usher in a new season of styles and trends for fashion and jewelry. 2010 has been an exciting year for jewelry, thus far, with bold, tribal pieces still ruling the trend barometer. It looks like some of these trends will continue into the Spring and Summer, although they will be seen with a bit of a twist. Fashion sites are still extolling the virtues of bold, statement-making jewelry, while acknowledging that current styles are shifting tsepkusopal2o more classic looks that ensure longevity and versatility.

Long, chunky chains are still popular, and trends are favoring chunky chains over dainty ones. In keeping with the Green movement, jewelry inspired by nature is also very big this season. Think woven, neutral, and ethnic. Raw stones have been seen more and more often, and these are very current. Two other trends that have been gaining momentum and promise to be very big this season are bangle bracelets and cocktail rings. For bracelets, think oversized bangles and cuffs, adorned with stones or pearls; real statement pieces. Of course, bangles are great layered, to create a look that’s unique to you!

Cocktail rings are fun and flirty, and can be dressed up or down depending on wardrobe. Converging with this trend is the statement of bold colors in jewelry, and the combination of colors. Peridot and blue topaz are especially hot this season, and can dazzle alone or be easily paired with warm or cool tones for a dynamic effect. As usual, the one pitfall to be avoided when pairing bold jewelry is over-accessorizing. To play it right, choose one or two statement pieces to shine at a time. Show that you’re confident and not afraid to make a statement, but that you’re savvy enough to not go over-the-top. And above all: let your light shine!
